Open Mic Night

Fancy performing at our Open Mic Night?

From young to old, anyone who wants to showcase their talents can take part in our Open Mic Night. Whether you want to perform with your band, give a cabaret performance, recite poetry or tell a story or just show off your dance moves to our audience, you can at De Lantaern!

Our sound engineer amplifies the vocals and instruments through our own sound system, ensuring the maximum decibel levels aren’t exceeded. You can provide the accompanying music on a USB stick, CD or MP3 player.

What you need to know before performing with us:

  • Performances start at 8.30 pm and last until around 11.30 pm (there are typically three performances per evening).
  • Artists at our Open Mic Night can perform for up to 45 minutes.
  • Artists are expected between 7 pm and 7.30 pm, so that any changes to the programme can still be discussed and arranged (the venue is open to the public from 8 pm).
  • The soundcheck is done during the interval just before an artist performs.
  • A performance only starts once the artist and engineer are satisfied with the sound (our engineers have years of experience in quickly setting up performances).
  • The order of performances is determined by the evening’s presenter.
  • Artists performing at our Open Mic Night are not paid. You perform free of charge and travel costs are not reimbursed. But you do receive three drink vouchers from us, plenty of publicity and an enthusiastic audience.
  • Open Mic Nights are free for visitors, so invite all your friends, family and fans to come and watch you perform. It’s great fun and everyone’s welcome!
  • Artists are allowed to sell their own CDs and merchandise during the intervals.

Artists who have signed up to perform at an Open Mic Night will be given a choice of different dates by email. Once you’ve agreed on a date, the organiser of that evening will contact you well in advance, asking you to email a short biography and a nice photo that we can use for publicity.

For a fee of €15, you can have the audio recording of your performance burnt onto a CD. You can let us know you’d like a CD when you sign up, but you can also ask the sound engineer on the evening itself.

Our photographers will also take photos that are used for promotional purposes. You’re of course free to use these photos yourself too, provided you credit us as the source.

Publicity

De Lantaern generates significant publicity for all our performers. We promote artists and their performances through our digital newsletter and social media channels. Planned concerts feature in our website’s calendar with photo and text, as well as in our newsletter and on social media. We sometimes also make video recordings during performances and concerts and post them on our Facebook page. Photos and videos are taken with the artists’ permission and the photos are stored in our public photo archive. It’s not possible to preview which videos and photographs will be posted.

Artists who perform with us also receive publicity beyond our own media channels, for instance, through local newspapers (print and digital) and their websites, as well as on various music and entertainment event listing websites.
