Open Mic Night
Tonight we have two bands instead of the usual three artists
Sue the Rain
Sue the Rain looks for the gems from the last few decades and brings them back to life on stage with multi-part harmonies. Memorable songs, from alternative rock and Britpop from the 80s and 90s to the better indie songs from this millennium. From Pixies, The Cranberries and R.E.M., to Arctic Monkeys, Florence & the Machine and Nothing but Thieves. Timeless songs by the likes of Blondie and Fleetwood Mac are also on the set list.
Band Ooit
We can be quite brief about how Band Ooit got their name. In the dim and distant past, when they were all still young gods, they had the ambition to ONE DAY (‘ooit’ in Dutch) become world-famous musicians. They’ve managed this quite well, at least if you consider their rehearsal space to be the musical centre of the world. It just took rather a long time for the fame to come and the wonderful groupies of yesteryear now come after them very slowly with their walking frames.
They are, however, convinced that they will ONE DAY get the rest of the world at their feet, because once you’ve conquered Music Café De Lantaern, the rest is a piece of cake.
Ooit has been around since 2012, but due to their weak backs, hernias, tennis elbows, osteoarthritis and other such ailments, they also fall apart on a regular basis. But…it has to be said: they pick themselves up again and again. The big exception is Wim, the lead guitarist, as he is bursting with health. Aged 64, he’s younger than the rest and so doesn’t (yet) need picking up again and again.
Ooit plays English-language rock from the 1960s and 1970s. After all, that’s where their roots and preferences lie. They play what they themselves like and their motto is: Keep on Rockin’.
The artists performing at our Open Mic Night will be announced roughly three weeks in advance.
