Music Café De Lantaern: a place where artists and music lovers come together. A place where unknown singers get a chance to showcase their talents, guitarists play their solos, and where visitors can enjoy a fun evening out in a place that feels like home.
Our music café is located in Zevenaar, south-east of Arnhem, and is run entirely by volunteers. We organise concerts from September to June. Every Saturday evening is a party with live performances by amazing artists who get the chance to showcase their talents with us.
Open: every Saturday evening from September to June
Closed: the whole months of July and August, and from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve inclusive
Top-quality concerts
Known as one of the more popular music cafés in the Netherlands, De Lantaern has become a platform for artists from both the Netherlands and abroad. It’s mainly the unique atmosphere that draws people to us. A diverse range of music from folk to jazz and country to rock ensures a lively atmosphere and a cheerful audience. Both unknown artists and those who have already made a name for themselves perform at De Lantaern and many of them love coming back to us.
Atmosphere
De Lantaern has a great atmosphere. An intimate venue where you sit close to the stage, where the artists share a drink with the audience during the interval, and where a familiar atmosphere draws you back week after week. An infectious enthusiasm shared by visitors, artists and volunteers alike. Even if it’s music you ‘wouldn’t normally listen to at home’, you’ll thoroughly enjoy it!
Open Mic Nights
We alternate paid concert evenings with free Open Mic Nights. Open Mic Nights give amateurs the opportunity to take to our stage. Musicians, comedians or actors…everything is possible. We’re delighted to give all amateurs the chance to showcase their talents with us. If you’ve never performed before, that’s no problem! Our staff know their stuff and will provide advice and practical support in any situation. It doesn’t matter whether you come from far away or live just around the corner. About every other week, the stage is set for new talent. De Lantaern is also known as a stepping stone for up-and-coming artists. These varied Open Mic Nights are well-attended and appreciated by our visitors.

During concert and Open Mic Nights, our staff take photos and sometimes videos that we may use in our promotional materials.
If you want to make your own recordings of performances at De Lantaern—especially if you intend to film with professional or semi-professional cameras—please bear the following in mind:
• Request permission from the artists themselves (in connection with portrait rights)
• Request permission from a board member of De Lantaern
When posting videos and/or photos online, we’d appreciate it if you’d mention that the recording was made at our Music Café De Lantaern.
A bit of history
It all began in an old chicken coop at the foot of a windmill. Our folk café opened its doors on Babberichseweg in Oud-Zevenaar and quickly grew into one of the best-known music cafés in Zevenaar. Since 1978, De Lantaern has been managed as a foundation, and our welcoming atmosphere quickly gained us national and international recognition. In 2009, we moved to our current location on the outskirts of Zevenaar town centre.

Mission
Live performances at a very affordable price: that’s what De Lantaern stands for. We do our utmost to create a homely atmosphere in our Music Café. With the help of our enthusiastic team of around 30 volunteers, we organise enjoyable evenings week after week. In order to do this, we have an established organisational and consultation structure, and De Lantaern receives support from the City of Zevenaar in the form of an annual grant. Our supporters also provide an extra contribution that helps us maintain continuity, but most importantly, keeps the music playing!
The board and all our volunteers warmly invite everyone to our café to attend a concert or Open Mic Night.
